Brose Purchasing wins international award again
For the third year in a row, Purchasing Brose Group has been recognized with a “World Procurement Award”. This time, the team received the prestigious international prize in the “Cross-Functional Collaboration” category. The coveted trophy was presented in London on 17 May.
Brose impressed with a concept for systematically handling make-or-buy decisions – the question of in-house production or external procurement. The objective is to safeguard and to expand the family-owned company’s core competencies in production, as well as to determine which resources and technologies should be sourced from suppliers. Within the Brose Group, employees from Purchasing, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Development and Controlling around the world work together across divisions to make decisions.
This knowledge exchange led to leaner processes, optimized products and cost savings. At the same time, the collaboration with suppliers drove forward the development of innovations. “We succeeded in spreading the team spirit far beyond a single functional area and in emphasizing that everyone involved benefits from this collaboration,” explained Sandro Scharlibbe, Executive Vice President Purchasing Brose Group. “For the employees involved, who are from different functional areas, the prize is an incentive to continue to work intensively toward shared goals.”
The panel of judges of the World Procurement Awards praised the systematic implementation of the concept at Brose as exemplary. The award is considered the international “Oscar of purchasing”. It is presented once a year by the global purchasing association Procurement Leaders, which has 27,000 members from more than 700 organizations and over 50 countries.
Brose has already received the award in the categories “Innovation” (2015) and “Best Procurement Team” (2016). The family-owned company’s Purchasing team procured materials, services and capital goods worth 4.6 billion euros from 4,200 suppliers worldwide in 2016.
