Brose receives the Procurement Excellence Award 2023

Automotive supplier Brose has been presented with the Procurement Excellence Award for large companies by the German Association of Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BME). The family-owned company won the award in recognition of an innovative concept for holistic cost management in purchasing.

In restructuring its cost management, Brose has bundled four previously isolated core topics in a newly created function: Negotiation expertise, cost analysis, technical rationalization measures and inflation costs. The department also acts as an interface to internal risk management and the sustainability and master data experts in purchasing. All data from purchasing to sales is networked and available to the entire Brose Group. This benefits for example negotiation experts, who have access to extensive background information for discussions with suppliers and customers.

"The new concept enables effective use of expert knowledge and strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration," explains Sven-Uwe Erber, Head of Purchasing and Supplier Quality Brose Group. "Last but not least, we have also further developed our role: Purchasing is no longer just a procurer and cost negotiator, but generates additional added value for the entire company."

In her laudatio, Dr. Helena Melnikov, Chief Executive Officer of the BME, emphasized the sportive template of the innovative approach: "Just like in performance centers in professional sports, the new area bundles all necessary competencies in one place so that they can be used as efficiently as possible."

About the Procurement Excellence Award
The Procurement Excellence Award is presented annually for outstanding achievements in the field of procurement and supply chain management. The award is presented once each for large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises. Two other awards recognize the best sustainability performance in the supply chain and the CPO or CSCO of the Year.
