An exchange that transcends all borders

Whether music, painting, literature, architecture or other forms of creative expression: culture moves and connects people across all borders. It creates and strengthens core values such as tolerance and humanity. Alongside talent and skill, it demands from artists extraordinary passion, ambition and dedication. All of these traits and motivating factors can also be found in the Brose canon of values. This is why we have been involved in international cultural sponsoring for many years. At the same time, supporting local projects helps increase the appeal of the regions surrounding our locations.

Cultural highlights

Since 2005 Brose has supported the Bamberg Symphony – Bavarian State Philharmonic, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in March 2016. What we are most passionate about is introducing young people to classical music. Twice a year symphony concerts are hosted for students at discounted rates. We also support the “Bamberg Symphony Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition” – one of the world’s foremost events for talented young conductors, which takes place every three years. 381 young musicians from a total of 64 countries entered in 2016, of which 14 – eleven male and three female conductors – were invited to Bamberg.

World Heritage Site and landmark

St. Michael’s Monastery has been a landmark in Bamberg’s old town center for a thousand years. It is as old as the convent of the same name and has been a World Heritage Site since 1993. Michael Stoschek, who chairs the board of trustees of Bamberg’s World Cultural Heritage Trust, is spearheading the urgently required refurbishment efforts. The proceeds from a benefit concert he organized in 2013 played a key role in restoring the renowned “Himmelsgarten” (Garden of Heaven) ceiling fresco. An appearance by world famous piano virtuoso Lang Lang at the Bamberg Brose Arena on 31 March 2016 delighted classical music enthusiasts. The proceeds of 427.000 € went completely towards this project.

Cultural and sporting event in one

Bamberg’s old town center has been a World Heritage Site since 1993. The Bamberg World Heritage Run is designed to bring this message closer to people. It builds a bridge between culture and sport enthusiasts from around the world. Every two years around 12,000 athletes from all age groups and 40,000 spectators meet to take part in an all-day event featuring sport, entertainment and culture. Routes of different lengths take runners past many of the city’s most beautiful sights. Brose has supported the event since 2001. We are the title sponsor of the 10.9 kilometer run, in which 200 Brose employees took part in 2015.

Historic architecture and contemporary culture

Founded by Duke Ernst I of Saxony-Coburg, the Coburg State Theater is unusual for a city of this size and has been a cultural institution for three performing arts – opera, theater and dance – since 1827. Thanks to our support, the State Theater is able to engage leading artists and staged an ambitious production of Wagner’s opera “Parsifal” in the 2016/2017 season. Our aim is to help promote young and international artists in Coburg as well as to increase the appeal of the location by expanding its cultural offerings.

Distinguished classical weeks

Since 1922 Würzburg has spent an entire month each summer celebrating the musical genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Mozart Festival features numerous concerts, including the highlight of the event – a performance in the Würzburg Residence Park – and attracts visitors from Germany and around the world each year. A total of 23,000 guests visited the event’s 66 performances in 2015 alone. “Mozart’s Europe” is the theme of the 2016 event, which will offer visitors a varied cultural program from 3 June to 3 July. We have been patrons of the Mozart Festival since Brose acquired the Würzburg electric motor plant in 2008.

A bastion of culture

Efforts to restore the 12th century Castell de Penyafort located close to our Spanish location near Barcelona have been underway since 2002. We have helped support this important work since 2009. The castle was pillaged and burned during the Spanish Civil War and its varied history is an official part of Catalan national heritage. It has now become a center for cultural encounters and is used for concerts and other events. The castle hall is scheduled for renovation work in 2016. Our contribution to restoring the building will include the installation of modern sound and lighting concepts.

World-class, inside and out

The opera house in Gothenburg Harbor bears a striking resemblance to a ship – and with good reason: the futuristic architecture of the structure built in 1994 quickly made it a new landmark in the Swedish metropolis. The Brose location in Gothenburg has also been one of the opera’s sponsors since 2009. The opera’s three-part program is world-renowned. In 2016/2017 the opera is planning on hosting performances of Carmen, Hair, The Magic Flute, Swan Lake and dance performances by renowned choreographers such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Ohad Naharin and Alan Lucien Øyen.
