2. BBL: Coburg misses playoffs despite strong performance

The BBC Coburg managed to win 87-93 against the VR-Bank Würzburg Baskets Academy despite numerous key player absences. However, the Vestestädter's season ends after the main round. Patrick Seidel's team did their job in the Franconian derby, but the Dragons Rhöndorf simultaneously lost their match against the RheinStars Köln. Therefore, Coburg has only the third-best record in the four-way comparison with Ulm, Rhöndorf, and Oberhaching, finishing ninth in the final standings. Frustrating from BBC's perspective, as they received the necessary help from other halls except for the Dragons' defeat. Despite missing the postseason, Coburg ends their season on a high. With the deserved 87-93 away win in the Franconian derby, the BBC also took revenge for the defeat in the first leg. The outstanding player was Coburg's Norwegian sharpshooter Tobias Rotegaard, who set a new personal career high in the ProB with eight out of eleven three-pointers and a total of 31 points. BBC head coach Patrick Seidel gave a positive summary of the entire season.
Without Adrian Petkovic, Nico Wenzl, Ben Diederichs, and Tim Herzog, Coburg played with only eight players, including youngsters Julian Günther and Marlon Lippe. Against the already playoff-qualified Würzburg team, the BBC kept the game on an equal footing. Early on, the scoring was distributed across multiple shoulders. Despite some unnecessary turnovers in the first half, the ball moved well through the ranks. Unselfish and always with an eye for the open teammate was Coburg's motto on offense. After two balanced quarters, the score was 40-41 at halftime. Even after the break, the eight Vestestädter continued to play without pressure, playing freely and hitting from beyond the three-point line. Tobias Rotegaard sank four three-pointers in the third quarter. Sean Ludwig and Marlon Stephan also hit successfully from outside. The Baskets stayed close through David Pisic and Calvin Wishart, reducing the gap to 64-65 by the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter, Coburg pulled away decisively with an 11-2 run. A scene that was indicative of this run: After a successful three-pointer by Marlon Stephan, Zach Hinton stole the ball on the subsequent inbound and laid it in the Würzburg basket. The hosts never recovered from this run, which is why the second Franconian derby of the season deservedly went to Coburg.
