Act like an entrepreneur

Develop products faster and successfully market them; lead interdisciplinary teams: this is what our project managers stand for. They are entrepreneurs within the company, they drive their global project teams and always have the “big picture” in mind. Project managers and team members are responsible for customer satisfaction, quality and results.

Committed teams, systematic process

Over 500 project managers and 4,000 team members in our company handle topics of varying complexity and face the challenging tasks of their projects with commitment and dedication. The product development process, or PDP for short, provides the framework for all customer projects. Our employees base their actions on this worldwide.

Competent and structured

Professional project work from order acquisition to series production is the foundation for quality, on-schedule delivery, economic efficiency and growth. Passion for the final product and a strong desire to please the customer are also critical to the success of our projects. All team members act independently and as a whole: successes are only possible if we work together. The project manager has overall responsibility for the project team.

Transparent and methodical

Meeting customer requirements in the specified time at the optimal cost – that’s excellent project work at Brose. The PDP provides valuable guidance. This mandatory tool consolidates the key tasks from the initial concept to the finished product in a transparent and methodical way. This includes the definition of responsibilities, interfaces, processes, tools and templates.

Think and act like an entrepreneur

Product development is one of the core processes at Brose. Every project manager acts like an entrepreneur within the company with foresight and a solution-oriented approach, weighing opportunities and risks, and making necessary decisions diligently, quickly and pragmatically. All project team members have the customer’s requirements in mind at all times. They are up to date on the current state of development, workflows and results. They utilize the short coordination paths between development and industrialization.

Global team players

Whether project engineer, design engineer, industrial engineer or project controller: they are experts in their field and contribute their expertise and personal skills to the team, manage processes and take on roles, act responsibly and methodically – from project start to finish. The project team shares the same objectives and comprises a network that spans functions and locations. Both project managers and team members alike understand the customer and know how to conduct themselves with business partners from other cultures. They are characterized by their commitment, openness and reliability.

Challenging and exciting: Project management at Brose

Advanced development projects and projects for the development and industrialization of new products and components are projects without a specific customer order and make a lasting contribution to the value and competitiveness of Brose.

Here, the focus of customer project management is to fully implement customer requirements in all phases of a product from its development and industrialization to series production. Every euro of revenue generated by Brose is acquired as part of a customer project.

Broad skills set wanted

Strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to network and a focus on success – these are the characteristics of our project engineers and project managers. Other requirements include social skills, flexibility and product/automotive experience. Negotiating skills and proficiency in German and English are mandatory in an international environment.

Perfect collaboration: Project managers and project engineers

The success of a project depends heavily on the smooth interaction of team members and the project manager. The project engineer is the project manager’s “right-hand (wo)man” and takes care of all technical issues inside and outside the company. This means the project engineer is responsible for the technical conception and realization of the product and its functionality. He/she coordinates design engineers, test engineers and industrial engineers. The project manager ensures that all activities of the team are focused on the project goal and summarizes the results.

Opportunities in project management

Our systematic career planning offers skilled project team members the opportunity to enter our challenging project manager career path. It is equivalent to the management and professional career path.

Entry into the three-stage career path requires several years of experience in successfully completed customer projects. A qualification program conveys specialist knowledge as well as methodological expertise and leadership skills. Regular exchange with other project managers provides valuable information through sharing of experiences and best-practice solutions. The career path to becoming a project director is closely associated with the growing complexity and strategic importance of the projects.

Employee report

Klaus Heidemann

Senior Project Manager Customer Unit, Drives

Brose is synonymous with practiced entrepreneurship: unbureaucratic working methods, direct contact between management and employees thanks to flat hierarchies, fast decision-making processes and individual responsibility for each employee’s actions. That’s how I experience project work every day.
