2.BBL: Defensively Weak BBC Loses to Munich

Coburg, 02-15-2025

In front of 1000 spectators at the HUK-COBURG Arena, BBC Coburg suffered their tenth defeat of the season against FC Bayern Basketball II. In a game that was balanced for almost the entire duration, it was Munich who delivered the decisive punch in the final quarter, defeating the hosts 78:87 (46:45). Coburg's top scorer was center Ben Diederichs, who recorded a double-double with 27 points and eleven rebounds, just like the previous week.

The guests from Munich had the better start, quickly leading 2:9 after just over two and a half minutes. After an early timeout, the Vestestädter found their rhythm, especially offensively. A 12:0 run in the middle of the first quarter put BBC in the lead. However, Munich's point guard Amar Licina reduced the gap to 20:19 at the end of the first ten minutes. In a second quarter that was offensively appealing on both sides, neither team could really pull away. For Bayern, wing Dominik Dolic took on more responsibility, repeatedly setting up his teammates from the pick-and-roll. Coburg's response came from Tobias Rotegaard. The Norwegian scored all of his eleven points, including three three-pointers, in the second quarter. Zach Hinton also ended the half with a successful three-pointer, making it 46:45 at halftime. After the break, the offensive power faded on both sides, and the game turned into a real slugfest. BBC managed to pull ahead by seven points (62:55) after a three-pointer from captain Nico Wenzl. But Bayern didn't let up, and the game was tied at 64:64 going into the final quarter. The game remained close, heading towards an exciting crunch time (73:73). However, the spectators at the HUK-COBURG Arena didn't get to see it. BBC made poor decisions on both ends of the court, which Munich's Nikolas Sermpezis and Dominik Dolic punished coldly. The Vestestädter could only score five points in the last six minutes, while Munich's guard duo combined for 15 points, deciding the game in favor of Bayern.

Looking at the schedule, BBC now has enough time to learn the right lessons from the defeat. Their next task is on 01.03., when Patrick Seidel's team will play away against the SKYLINERS Juniors from Frankfurt. Tip-off is at 16:00.
