BBL: Bamberg Baskets Suffer Heavy Defeat in Rostock

The Bamberg Baskets suffered a heavy away defeat on Easter Sunday. In the 74:98 loss against the Rostock Seawolves, Coach Anton Gavel's team was clearly inferior, especially in the first half, and showed no play-in ambitions. By halftime, the Upper Franconians were trailing 33:61 and could be glad that Rostock slowed down in the final quarter.
It was clear early on that Bamberg, weakened by the absence of Ibrahim Watson (broken finger) and Kyle Lofton (shoulder injury), would not achieve much in Rostock: The first six shots missed the target, and after just under three minutes, the score was 0:7 – Gavel called for a timeout. Major weaknesses were revealed in defense: rebounds were given away without a fight, and the retreat after turnovers was often too slow, inviting Rostock to easy points, resulting in a 33:61 halftime score. Only Ronaldo Segu and Noah Locke managed to score in double digits, with Moritz Krimmer and Filip Stanic also making some impact, but overall, Bamberg's performance remained pale. Stanic also missed six of eight free throws. Bamberg appeared tired, uninspired, and often simply overwhelmed – Coach Gavel seemed increasingly helpless on the sidelines. Mathematically, the play-ins are still possible with five remaining games and five wins, but given the performance shown, the end of the season after 32 matchdays seems closer than any glimmer of hope.
Next Friday, April 25, 2025, Gavel's boys will host bottom-of-the-table BG Göttingen. Tip-off is at 8:00 PM.
