BBL: Late Defeat in the Derby against Würzburg

In the end, overtime was needed to determine a winner on the 21st matchday in the Franconian derby between the Bamberg Baskets and the FIT/One Würzburg Baskets. After Bamberg had the upper hand in the first leg, the Unterfranken won this time on Wednesday evening in front of 4,017 spectators in the BROSE ARENA. In the match, Head Coach Anton Gavel's team lost to Würzburg 93:98 (41:44 / 86:86), thus missing the chance to catch up with their Franconian rivals in the standings.
The guests got off to a better start. After just over four minutes, Tyrese Williams scored to make it 6:12. By this time, Würzburg had already grabbed five offensive rebounds. However, as the first quarter progressed, the hosts got better and better into the game and were temporarily ahead 22:18. With a short spurt, Würzburg managed to equalize to 23:23 by the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, both teams moved almost head-to-head towards halftime. Neither team could gain more than a three-point lead. KeyShawn Feazell initially put Bamberg ahead 41:39, before the guests – as at the end of the first quarter – managed to take a 5:0 run to a halftime lead (41:44). In the second half, the Unterfranken remained slightly ahead. But shortly before the end of the third quarter, it was Bamberg again who were ahead 65:64. At the beginning of the final quarter, the hosts managed to pull away to 72:67. Craig Moller from the free-throw line and Ronaldo Segu with a jump shot parallel to the board were able to equalize again 9 seconds before the end. Since Jhivvan Jackson's last shot missed the basket, the game went into overtime at 86:86. In overtime, Bamberg had several chances to take the lead, but both KeyShawn Feazell and Noah Locke could not capitalize on their opportunities. On the other side, Tyrese Williams did better. 26 seconds before the end, the American hit a three-pointer from the right corner of the field to make it 93:96. This was the decisive moment in this Franconian thriller, with the FIT/One Würzburg Baskets emerging as the winners.
Now it's time to fully focus on the big goal in the BBL Cup: reaching the final! On Saturday, Bamberg will play away against the SKYLINERS in the semifinals. Jump is at 19:00.
