Ballett Coburg invites you to "First Steps - Losgelassen"

  • Premiere on Friday, 24 March at 8 pm
Coburg, 03-22-2023

Ballett Coburg's popular "First Steps" format goes into the next round in the Reithalle. Under this year's motto "Loose", the ensemble presents nine surprising choreographic miniatures ranging from classical to modern, from funny to moving, from quirky to rousing.

For over ten years now, ballet director Mark McClain has been handing over the choreographic reins to his dancers once a year. And not only that - all decisions, from the subject of the piece to the choice of music, from the costumes to the lighting, lie with the young artists. The premiere will take place on Friday, 24 March at 8 pm in the Reithalle.

"First Steps" is an opportunity to get to know the dancers once again from a different, very personal side. The choreographies reflect not only preferences for certain dance styles, but also memories, longings and hopes. The dancers often develop the ideas for the pieces over the entire season. After casting with the ensemble members - no easy task, as all the pieces rehearse in parallel - the costume designs are realised together with the theatre's costume department, inspired by the emerging choreographies. Gradually, the plays come to life. In the last instance, Mark McClain and ballet mistress Miki Acker look at the almost finished pieces, give final tips and give the programme a dramaturgical arc.

The result is a poetic, sensual, humorous and musically and stylistically varied evening in the intimate atmosphere of the Reithalle, in which the audience is also invited to let go for once - from the need to analytically penetrate every nuance of what is seen to an intuitive understanding.

Unfortunately, the premiere on Friday 24 March at 8 pm and the second performance on Sunday 26 March are almost sold out; remaining tickets can be obtained at the box office. Five more performances can be experienced in the Reithalle until the end of April. Tickets are available at the theatre box office or online at www.landestheater-coburg.de.
