Basketball Bundesliga: Bayreuth with brilliant home win over MBC

Bayreuth, 11-20-2021

With a victory medi bayreuth goes into the upcoming FIBA Break. With the knowledge of the upcoming international break, the medi team, once again playing without Seiferth, Jõesaar, Wells and Jalalpoor, gave everything again and continued the already great team performance from last Wednesday in the FIBA Europe Cup seamlessly.

Offensively and defensively, medi was in the game from the start. In contrast, the guests from Weißenfels managed little. Only 11 points were scored after the first ten minutes, while Bayreuth managed to put 28 points on the scoreboard.

The situation hardly changed in the second quarter either. The Wolves still didn't want to shoot (0/9 threes at halftime), while medi bayreuth's Kevin Wohlrath was particularly impressive. He scored a strong 8 points for an interim lead of 22 points (41:19/15). By halftime, they kept the Wolves with 20 points clearly at a distance (47:27).

Who was afraid that Bayreuth would lose intensity due to the decimated squad and the high workload, was positively surprised. Head Coach Raoul Korner's team continued to play with high concentration, so that the lead could be extended in the third quarter as well. With a 74:49 lead, they went into the last ten minutes of the game.

Here, too, medi bayreuth did not let up at all. In the end, all the players used were able to register in the scorers' list and Kay Bruhnke was the one to complete the 100 points with a mid-range shot, so that the team was able to celebrate its first BBL home victory with a deserved 100:68 in the end.

"A huge compliment to my team that they once again managed to bring such a surge of energy to the floor, which is certainly also due to the support of the fans. Every one of us knew, at least in the back of our minds, that this game would probably be the last one we would be able to play in front of such a full hall. Maybe that was the last spark of motivation that gave the lads even more wings," explained Head Coach Raoul Korner after the game.

Next on the agenda is the Upper Franconia derby. On December 4, medi bayreuth will host Brose Bamberg. Jump in the Brose Arena is at 6:00 pm.
