Basketball Bundesliga: Brose Bamberg loses in Bonn

Bonn, 01-23-2022

Almost two and a half weeks after its last game, Brose Bamberg was able to get back on the basketball court: but the Bambergers had to admit defeat to the Telekom Baskets Bonn 81:95 away. Nevertheless, the performance was better than in the 80:100 first leg defeat in November.

The conditions in the Bamberg team before the game at the second in the table were not good. Due to the Corona quarantine of some players, regular team training was out of the question, and the infected pros had only tested themselves out again on Saturday. However, Elias Baggette had already turned his back on the team the week before, pulled a contract clause and joined Pro-A-Ligist Bremerhaven. To make matters worse, Kenneth Ogbe broke a bone in his left hand and will be out for the next few weeks, as well as Dominik Lockhart.

For Bonn, playmaker Parker Jackson-Carwright had more than a brilliant day: with 40 points, the player from Bonn not only set a new league record this season, he scored all of Bonn's first 17 points himself. At 14:17 after five minutes, Bonn's playmaker had already converted five three-pointers against Bamberg, as many as in the three-player total before. Bamberg did keep up under the basket with the strong Akil Mitchell. But when he had to go to the bench after seven points, Bonn pulled away to 21:27 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, Bamberg was unfocused on the defensive end, Bonn pulled away far too easily to 26:44, Christian Sengfelder cut the deficit to 39:52 with a three-pointer at the half-time break.

After the change of ends, the Franconians' defense improved: with changing tactics in defense, the Amiel boys made it more difficult for Bonn in attack but failed to hit several free threes in front. It wasn't until the middle of the third quarter that Prewitt's seventh long-range shot landed in the basket, and Tomas Kyzlink (17 points) immediately followed up with another to make it 53:59. But whenever Bamberg could have reduced the gap to one possession or the next three-pointer, Bonn scored. In the end, Brose Bamberg had to admit defeat with 81:95.

"Bonn is one of the top teams in the league for a reason. They ruined every chance we had. Of course, I could single out Jackson-Cartwright now, but everyone worked. They were just better than us, unfortunately. Nevertheless, we didn't give up, accepted the difficult situation and fought our way back into the game," said Oren Amiel (head coach Brose Bamberg) after the game.

On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, Brose Bamberg will play a make-up game against Franconian local rival s.oliver Würzburg.
