Basketball Bundesliga: Brose Bamberg loses in Göttingen without a point guard

Brose Bamberg slides back into the bottom of the table due to bad luck with injuries: Without the two regular point guards Patrick Miller and Amir Bell, head coach Oren Amiel's team can only keep up for 33 minutes at BG Göttingen, then the team from Lower Saxony pulls away for a 75-97 victory.

In the standings, the Bamberg team slipped back to 15th place with the second defeat in a row and a 3:7 record. Solid playmakers Spencer Reaves and Jaromír Bohačík set the scene for the long-range shooters - Christian Sengfelder and Kevin Wohlrath scored for a 17:11 lead, which they defended until the end of the quarter. But at the beginning of the second quarter Patrick Heckmann lost the ball twice, the Göttingen team took advantage and immediately took a 22:23 lead. Captain Sengfelder and Wohlrath, the two later top scorers, each sank a three-pointer to give Bamberg a one-point lead, but after Jaromír Bohačík equalized at 32:32, Bamberg let up. With 19:33 the second quarter was lost for Bamberg, 41:50 the break.

In the third quarter, the constantly scoring Sengfelder and Wohlrath got help from center Gabriel Chachashvili, who contributed three of his four basket shots as well as two nice assists to the comeback. Kevin Wohlrath opened the final period with a basket to make it 67:69, twice the Bambergers had the chance to equalize in the following, but Göttingen made the throws difficult. Two minutes before the end, the game was decided with 74:89.

Oren Amiel (Head Coach Brose Bamberg): "Under the circumstances, we played at eye level for 33 minutes. In the end, we ran out of steam and they pulled away. But I can't blame my players, they left everything on the floor."

On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, Amiel's team will play its second group game in the FIBA Europe Cup Intermediate Round: starting at 6 p.m., Bamberg will host bottom-of-the-table Keravnos BC.
