Basketball Bundesliga: medi bayreuth clearly beats Hamburg

Bayreuth, 02-05-2022

In the anniversary game of Raoul Korner, his 250th as Head Coach of medi bayreuth, the team of the Austrian really let it rip. After a gala performance, Bayreuth defeated the Hamburg Towers with 90:71.

Despite renewed absences, the Upper Franconians presented themselves highly concentrated from the start. Through a quick 6:0 run, Head Coach Raoul Korner's team was able to take a 10:3 lead after just four minutes. The Hamburg team subsequently got into the game better and reduced the deficit to 18:14 by the end of the first quarter.

Medi also opened the second period strongly. Especially through Sacar Anim, who scored 11 points in this quarter alone (4/5 threes), the Bayreuthers were able to pull away to 49:34 by halftime.

After the change of ends, Head Coach Raoul Korner's team scored the first points, but then the Towers increasingly found their way into the game and came back to within six points after an 11-0 run. After three-pointers by Sacar Anim and Kay Bruhnke, the lead was back to double digits.

In the final period, medi had a strong grip on the game as well. They hardly allowed any easy throws and were also good at rebounding. Again and again, Martynas Sajus was on the spot, who delivered an outstanding performance both offensively (21 points) and on defense (10 rebounds, 4 blocks). Thanks also to the support of the medi fans, Head Coach Raoul Korner's boys ultimately celebrated a highly deserved 90:71 home victory over the Towers.

"I just thanked the lads for making my 250th game as Head Coach in this organization a game that I will probably never forget for the rest of my life," Raoul Korner stated after the game.

Next Wednesday, the next game for Bayreuth is on the agenda. In the last game of the FIBA Europe Cup, the team will face Legia Warsaw. Jump in Warsaw is at 17:30.
