Basketball Bundesliga: medi bayreuth loses to ratiopharm ulm

It was a great game that medi bayreuth delivered against ratiopharm ulm on the 32nd matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga. Despite the conditions, which were once again anything but easy, the team around captain Bastian Doreth faced the Ulm team with a lot of commitment. But as Head Coach Raoul Korner summed up after the game, this game was also a prime example of Bayreuth's season. With 73:80, medi bayreuth lost to ratiopharm ulm and thus must continue to wait for their 12th win of the season.

At the beginning, ratiopharm ulm started the game better and already led 9:3 after three minutes, but the team of Head Coach Raoul Korner fought energetically for every ball and was able to reduce the deficit to 9:11 after five minutes. However, since the Münster team's three-point shooting rate was not high either, they remained within striking distance with a 15:18 deficit after the first quarter.

Right at the beginning of the second unit, medi had the chance to equalise, but the guard missed the bonus free throw, which the Ulm team took advantage of in return to regain a small cushion at 25:19. From then on, Jaka Lakovic's team set the tone and managed to pull away to 30:21, which prompted Raoul Korner to call a time-out. That the Austrian had found the right words was proven by his team's redemption from the three-point line when Marcus Thornton scored in the 18th minute to make it 24:30. However, Ulm were now also scoring a little better, which helped them to a 40:33 half-time lead.

It remained an intense game after the change of ends. Through good defence, they forced the Ulm team to make more mistakes, which they were able to convert into points and reduce the gap to two points (48:50). After that, when Janari Jõesaar shot from beyond the three-point line, Head Coach Raoul Korner's team even had the chance to take the lead. Instead, the throw missed its target and Ulm pulled away again to 57:51.

The last quarter was opened by a three-pointer from Marcus Thornton, who reduced the deficit to three points again. The fact that medi did not give up at any time, but once again demonstrated incredible fighting spirit, was proven by the fact that Head Coach Raoul Korner's team was able to cut the deficit to one point three times in the final period. However, ratiopharm ulm always knew the right answer to Bayreuth's chase and ultimately won 80-73.

"If you want to sum up our season, you only have to look at today's game. The team fought. In the end, it wasn't enough because we reached the limits of what we could do and of our quality, and in the end an Ulm team prevailed that can also fall back on three NBA players," Raoul Korner (Head Coach medi bayreuth) commented on the game.

The last home game of the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga 2021/2022 season is already scheduled for next Thursday. The MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg will be the guests in the Oberfrankenhalle.
