BBC Coburg loses to Giants Leverkusen

Leverkusen, 10-07-2018

BBC COBURG is still without a point in the BARMER ProB South 2nd German Basketball League after its third game of the season. The team of Head Coach Ulf Schabacker went down 84:62 (42:29) on the road at Bayer Giants Leverkusen on Sunday afternoon. The superior rebounding of the “Giants from the Rhine” was particularly decisive and was compounded by another weak shooting percentage by Coburg.

The BBC defended decently in the opening spell and was 7:10 ahead after five minutes. The home side then intimated its class, and above all its tallness, for the first time with a run of eight points without reply. The “Giants from the Rhine” fully lived up to their nickname, snapping up a hefty 50 rebounds in the whole of the forty minutes, whereas BBC Coburg managed just 29. Nevertheless, Ulf Schabacker’s team fought its way back into the game twice after the break: First of all, Dino Dizdarevic drained a bucket from outside (47:37) and at the start of the fourth period Penn grabbed an offensive rebound and finished with a mighty a slam-dunk despite being fouled to make it 58:47. However, that was the most the BBC was able to achieve on the afternoon. At the other end, the French player Mvouika (three three-pointers), the Serbian Celebic and the German sharpshooters Blessig and Schönborn (two each) reliably drained their shots from downtown for the team of Head Coach Hansi Gnad.
