BBL Cup: Bamberg Baskets start the new season victoriously!

Karlsruhe, 09-14-2024

Bamberg Baskets won its game in the first round of the BBL Cup on the road against second-division club PS Karlsruhe Lions by 78:57 (37:32) on Saturday to advance to the round of 16.

However, Karlsruhe dominated at the start of the game and initially took the lead. It was 4:32 minutes into the first period before Moritz Krimmer scored Bamberg's first points of the game from the foul line. However, the home side still set the tone and led 17:14 after the first period. Bamberg then took the lead for the first time in the second quarter through Kyle Lofton, after Ibi Watson had previously drained two threes. They were 37:32 ahead against Karlsruhe at the break. Bamberg stepped up the pressure at the start of the second half and finally pulled 62:45 ahead after a 13:2 run by Kevin Wohlrath. At the latest after KeyShawn Feazell's slam-dunk to make it 70:48 in the final period, no one in Karlsruhe's Europahalle doubted that Bamberg would win, which was deserved and commanding overall after a clear improvement in performance in the second half.

Anton Gavel's team now has home court in the next cup round. It will host Gavel's former team Ratiopharm Ulm in the BROSE ARENA on the weekend of October 12/13.
