BBL: Defeat for Bamberg in Season Opener

Bamberg, 09-22-2024

The Bamberg Baskets lost their season opener at home on Sunday against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig with a score of 77-96 (37-35), failing to secure their first home game under Head Coach Anton Gavel.

Initially, the game seemed to be in favor of Bamberg. They led in both the first and second quarters and were ahead 37-35 at halftime. The game remained close after the break, but then the team from Lower Saxony turned the game around and pulled ahead to 76-56 at the start of the final quarter. They made 11 of their 15 field goal attempts and 13 of 16 free throws, scoring a total of 36 points in the third quarter. The game seemed decided, but with great support from the crowd, Coach Gavel’s team made a comeback. After an 18-4 run in just over five and a half minutes, the score was 74-80 with 2:52 minutes left. However, the Löwen, led by Barra Njie, responded correctly. Njie made two free throws to extend the lead back to double digits. In the end, Braunschweig secured the victory in the well-attended BROSE ARENA with 4,557 spectators.

On September 29, 2024, Bamberg will have the opportunity to turn their season around with an away game against the Skyliners in Frankfurt.
