Brose Bamberg loses to Würzburg Baskets

Strullendorf, 08-30-2022

In the second test game for the new season, Brose Bamberg suffered a 72-90 defeat against the Würzburg Baskets. Due to injuries and national team absences, the home side was down to eight players, which was reflected in a shooting percentage of 36 percent.

Gabriel Chachashvili was absent due to a torn ligament, Amir Bell and Kevin Wohlrath are struggling with muscular problems and therefore also did not play. The remaining eight Bamberg players, however, did their job more than well in the first period, running the ball well and finding the free man again and again. In addition to 16 points from the field, they hit eight free throws on eight attempts and went into the first quarter break with a 24:18 lead. In the second ten minutes, Brose lost its focus, allowed too much on defense and missed one ball after the other offensively. As a result, the Baskets came back and pulled ahead after 25 minutes: 32:33. The Bamberg deficit grew to 35:47 at the break.

In the third period, the guests sank six three-pointers and extended the Bamberg deficit to 20 points for the first time after a good 28 minutes. After 30 minutes, Brose trailed 52-73. In the final period, it was initially the home side who scored again from the field and from beyond the 6.75m line. In the final minutes, Würzburg once again stepped up the pace against the eight bravely fighting Bamberg players and thus sealed the 72:90 defeat.

Patrick Heckmann: "In the first quarter we did quite well, could drive some good actions in front and stood stable at the back. But as the game progressed, we lost energy and conceded easy points. Towards the end, we regained our composure and played some nice basketball again. You also have to remember that there were only eight of us. If the injured players come back, then I see us on a good path."

After the game against Würzburg, which was exclusive only for season ticket holders, all fans now have two more chances to experience their team up close on 07.09.2022 against Hagen and on 11.09.2022 against Monaco.
