Brose Bamberg with a new look
Nine-times German basketball champions Brose Bamberg will embark on the upcoming season with a completely overhauled squad. After the team had been entered for the Champions League, Maodo Lo and Daniel Hackett exercised their rights under their release clause and moved to clubs playing in the Euroleague. Leon Radosevic also did the same and, like Lo, is moving to FC Bayern. Ali Nikolic has signed up for Belgrade. However, the contracts of Lucca Staiger, Dorell Wright and Dejan Musli were not extended. Luka Mitrovic and the club reached an agreement that his contract would be rescinded prematurely.
In the other direction, Leon Kratzer and Arnoldas Kulboka are returning from Würzburg and Italy respectively after being on loan from Bamberg. Mo Stuckey is likewise leaving Würzburg to return to his former club in Upper Franconia, for which he played from 2009 to 2013. The 29-year-old Serbian player Stevan Jelovac has been given a one-year contract in Bamberg. He is strong on the wings. From the French league Cliff Alexander moves to Germany and will strengthen Brose in its tall positions. The latest and last signing is the former Euroleague Champion Tyrese Rice, who gets a one year contract. At last the 31-year-old American played for the Chinese top-team Shenzhen.
The changes in the team are accompanied by a change in Head Coach: Ainars Bagatskis from Latvia will take over from Luca Banchi for the new season. He was last Head Coach in Tel Aviv. The draw for the first round of the cup was also held and has pitted Brose Bamberg against its Franconian rival s.Oliver Würzburg at home at the beginning of October.
