Christian Engelhart captures pole position in the Lamborghini to kick off the Blancpain GT Series season

Monza, 04-14-2019

Following intensive testing and extensive preparation, Christian Engelhart and his teammates embarked on the Blancpain Endurance Cup 2019 season last weekend. The GRT Grasser Racing Team was able to capture pole position in the very first qualifying of the year in Monza. However, the car was unfortunately forced to retire from the race itself due to a technical problem.

It initially looked like the start Christian had hoped for to the long Blancpain Endurance Cup season. The three pilots clocked the best combined time of the 49-strong field in their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo in the very first qualifying of the year and so started from the front of the grid.

The number 63 lined up in wet conditions for a demanding race, which went very well for the first hour. Even tire damage was not able to stop the trio of Christian, Mirko and Rolf: The team only minimally lost positions thanks to a strong pit stop. In the final stint, however, Christian suffered a technical setback, which forced the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo to withdraw from the race while on track for a place on the podium.

“We got off to a very good start this weekend and our performance was spot on. My team did a great job the whole weekend and got our number 63 into perfect shape. Of course, we’re annoyed that a technical problem meant we missed out on the chance of a place on the rostrum. But that’s motor racing. So we’ll again prepare for the next race meticulously and intensively. Then we’ll come back all the stronger and naturally continue pursuing our goal of winning races.”
