Davis Cup: German men with sovereign performance
Even without the currently injured Alexander Zverev and his teammate Jan-Lennard Struff, the German men presented themselves successfully at this year's Davis Cup in Mostar and secured their place in the class.
Kevin Krawietz, a native of Coburg, and Tim Pütz from Frankfurt secured Germany's place in the World Group in the relegation duel on Sunday. With a two-set win, the German doubles team prevailed against the hosts from Bosnia-Herzegovina despite initial difficulties and thus earned the necessary third point for the German selection of team captain Michael Kohlmann. Their opponents Damir Dzumhur and Mirza Basic ultimately defeated the German duo 6:4 and 6:2.
The day before, Daniel Altmaier and Yannik Hanfmann already had success in their respective singles. On Saturday, Altmaier beat Nerman Fatic 7:6, 7:5, 6:2, while Hanfmann surprisingly defeated former top-30 player Dzumhur 6:2, 6:1 in the second singles match. Altmaier and Hanfmann thus already secured a 2:0 win for the German team in their singles matches.
This gives the German men a chance to play for the title in the final round in Malaga, Spain, next year.
