FIBA Europe Cup: Brose Bamberg falls back to third place

Bamberg, 11-02-2022

This is how Brose Bamberg loses its chance to advance in the FIBA Europe Cup! On the fourth matchday, the team suffered another home defeat - 68:84 against the Chemnitz Niners. After two home defeats in a row, Bamberg has fallen to third place in Group A.

The good mood in training after the suspension of top scorer Justin Wright-Foreman was only partially carried over into the game against Chemnitz. Without the playmaker, the team chemistry seems visibly better, but without a replacement for the often too selfish top scorer, Bamberg lacks offensive "firepower" at the moment. The real reason for the defeat against the Saxons was the ball losses: recently, Amiel's boys were much better at passing the ball and pushed the turnovers below ten. Against the Niners they lost the ball 21 times. Bamberg had a better throwing ratio, grabbed more rebounds, but since the guests gave up 18 more throws to the basket and scored 22 points after Amiel boys lost the ball, they took the victory.

After an even start and 13:12 lead for Bamberg after eight points from Vaidas Kariniauskas, the guests pulled away to as many as 15 points. Especially Jaromír Bohačík took the reins and motivated his teammates with lay-ups. Patrick Heckmann, who was getting into better shape, took the three-pointer for Bamberg's 8-0 run, and the Amiel boys were within 59:62 with eight minutes to go. Four missed throws, an unsportsmanlike foul and two ball losses followed - 0:9 run by Chemnitz, 59:71, the game was decided.

Oren Amiel (head coach Brose Bamberg): "We have three wins so far and in all these games we had few ball losses. Against Chemnitz there were 21, you can't win a game like that. Everyone has to take responsibility. We outside on the bench, the players on the field. We have a good team, but if you don't have confidence, then mistakes happen. Now is the time for strong people."

On Sunday, 6.11 2022, Brose Bamberg has to play at the surprise team of the Bundesliga so far, the Rostock Seawolves, starting at 3 pm. The promoted team started the season with four wins.
