FIBA Europe Cup: Brose Bamberg regains lead in standings

Bamberg, 11-23-2022

With a superior 95-78 home win over Hapoel Nofar Galil Elion, Brose Bamberg regained the lead in the standings on the penultimate matchday of the FIBA Europe Cup. In a week's time, the Amiel boys will be able to make it through to the next round with a successful revenge away in Ylli.

Bamberg made up for the 0:5 start with two threes from Kevin Wohlrath, who has been playing stronger and stronger in recent weeks, and newcomer Patrick Miller made it 8:7 with a beautiful basket. The following minutes showed how variable the Bambergs are in attack with the new point guard, when they turned a 10:12 into a double-digit lead thanks to a 13:0 run: Dunking Gabriel Chachashvili, half-court shot Jaromír Bohačík, three-pointer Spencer Reaves after offensive rebound, three-pointer Amir Bell - so varied are the Bambergers hard to calculate. Kevin Wohlrath increased the lead to 32:19 with his third three-pointer in the second quarter, when the Israelis switched to zone defense at the back, forcing some of the Bambergers to lose the ball and were able to cut the lead to 46:44 by the break.

The visitors took advantage of weaknesses in the Brose defense in the first five minutes after the break as well, and coach Oren Amiel called a timeout when his team trailed 55:59. Point guard Patrick Miller, in particular, pushed the tempo even further, moving straight through the Elion defense time and again and finishing with baskets. The American scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and also laid on several assists. Top scorer Christian Sengfelder was a particular beneficiary of this, as he repeatedly hit his four three-pointers after beautiful passes. In the end, the team won 95:78, which was well-deserved.

Oren Amiel (Head Coach Brose Bamberg): "We started well, were solid on defense and made good throws by switching quickly. Then they changed defense and we lost some control, had to play slower. But in the last quarter, we managed to pick up the pace, defended well and that's why we were able to create good throws and win the game."

On Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, Brose Bamberg will have to face the Niners Chemnitz for the fourth time this season, the first time in the Basketball Bundesliga. Jump in Chemnitz is at 6 p.m.
