FIBA Europe Cup: Brose Bamberg makes up 17-point deficit and wins in Chemnitz

Chemnitz, 10-13-2022

The 89-85 away win at the Niners Chemnitz was unrivaled in drama for Brose Bamberg. First, the Amiel boys recovered a 17-point deficit until shortly before the break, four and a half minutes before the end Bamberg was again behind by ten points, but with a strong show of strength the guests saved the game in the Chemnitz Messehalle.

Back then, at the beginning of September, Bamberg was down 12:29 in the first quarter and fought back to 80:84, but Bamberg was missing five men at that time due to injuries or the national team and the game was lost. Things went differently at Messe Chemnitz, although the start of the game was even worse for Bamberg. While the home side hit six threes in the first quarter, the Amiel boys' efforts did not click, they sought their salvation in individual actions, mostly not crowned with success. In the middle of the second quarter, playmakers Justin Wright-Foreman and Vaidas Kariniauskas as well as captain Christian Sengfelder took the reins: finally, the ball went through nice passing routes, and when there was no one free outside at the three-point line, the Bambergers moved quickly to the basket. But Chemnitz took advantage of two carelessnesses in Bamberg's defense with a 0:5 run for a 41:49 break score.

From the middle of the third quarter, Bamberg had to do without Jaromír Bohačík, who had been its best scorer up to that point. However, this seemed to have awakened the fighting spirit in the Bambergers: although the Amiel boys invited the Chemnitz players too often to second throwing chances and points by allowed offensive rebounds, they kept the deficit constantly in single digits, only five minutes before the end Chemnitz hit a basket to 69:79.

Oren Amiel (Head Coach Brose Bamberg): "Sometimes you just don't have the words to explain what happened. We played so bad in the first and not even really good in the second, but the guys fought and really believed in it."

On Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, Brose Bamberg faces a high hurdle in FC Bayern Munich in the Cup Round of 16. Jump in the Brose Arena is at 6 p.m.
