Magentasport BBL Cup: Brose Bamberg eliminated against vice-champion Munich

Bamberg, 10-16-2022

As in the previous season, Brose Bamberg was eliminated in the first round of the magentasport-BBL-Cup by vice-champion FC Bayern München. After a balanced first quarter, the home side suffered a clear 68-85 defeat against coach Andrea Trinchieri's team at the Brose Arena.

In the first quarter, it still seemed as if the Brose Bamberg team could stand up to the vice-champion from the state capital. Justin Wright-Foreman in particular turned up irresistibly in the early stages, hitting all three of his throws and thus scoring the first eight of Bamberg's ten points. Subsequently, however, the playmaker was closely covered by the Munich team and, despite scoring 14 points in the end, was unable to show himself to his best advantage. Christian Sengfelder regained the lead after the 0:5 of the guests once again with a beautiful Kornleger, but nevertheless at the end of the quarter a narrow 18:21 deficit stood on the scoreboard. The reason, despite an outstanding 60% three-pointer quota of the Bambergers: the Amiel team let the opponent grab far too many offensive rebounds - as in the last games - and Munich made seven points out of five second chances. The second big problem for the home side, which has been present in all games so far, cost the Bamberg team the second quarter: the Amiel boys lost seven balls after Spencer Reaves had tied the game at 21:21 with a three-pointer.

Coach Oren Amiel had different defensive variants played around Bamberg's best defensive man Amir Bell, but the Euroleague team from Munich did not let his offense be disturbed and scored constantly. At the beginning of the final quarter, Trinchieri's team increased its lead to 21 points and the game was decided.

Oren Amiel (head coach Brose Bamberg): "Munich controlled the game. It was an instructive game for some of our players, who saw the level they need to get to if they want to realize their dreams."

Brose Bamberg's second away game in the FIBA Europe Cup is on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022. Starting at 5 p.m., Jump is in Elion, Israel, at Hapoel Nofar Galil.
