medi Bayreuth defeats Bremerhaven with sparking display in offense
medi Bayreuth has maintained its winning streak. After three wins in a row, it also won its encounter on the eighth matchday of the easyCredit German Basketball League and so continued its string of victories across all competitions. In front of 3,005 spectators in the Oberfrankenhalle on Saturday evening, the team of Head Coach Raoul Korner beat Bremerhaven Polar Bears by 113:85 (59:41) to climb to eighth in the table for the time being thanks to its fourth win of the season.
medi Bayreuth wanted to confirm its upward trend of the past games and so Raoul Korner began with his customary starting five in the Oberfrankenhalle cauldron. And it more than did that. The home side was wide alert from the outset, also thanks to a David Stockton who was in fine form from the outset. Together with De’Mon Brooks and Hassan Martin, it ticked over right away in offense. Even an early timeout called by the visitors’ Head Coach Arne Woltmann after barely three minutes had elapsed did nothing to change that and so Bayreuth led by double digits soon afterwards. medi maintained its game at a constantly high level up to the end of the period and was rewarded with a 28:17 lead.
It even improved its already very good shooting percentage in the second quarter. At no time were the Polar Bears able to disrupt the rhythm of Raoul Korner’s team in offense to any decisive extent. The home side carved out open shots beautifully time and again and also drained a large share of them. The gap grew to 59:41 by half-time.
28 points in the first period and 31 in the second were an above-average performance in offense, but medi Bayreuth even topped that in the third quarter by adding another 33 on the scoreboard. Every player made his contribution to making sure his team’s flow was not disrupted and keeping the Polar Bears at bay.
In the final period, the home side left no doubt as to who would finish as victors. With five minutes to go, Kassius Robertson drained a bucket from downtown to break the 100-point mark for his side. Raoul Korner’s team eventually ran out highly deserved winners by 113:85.
