medi bayreuth offers MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg a tough fight - but surprise remains out of reach

Bayreuth, 02-14-2023

Every now and then the hope for the sensation germinated on Tuesday evening, but in the end the sensation unfortunately failed to materialize from medi bayreuth's point of view. On the 21st matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, Head Coach Mladen Drijencic's team put up a great fight against the MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg in a strongly offensive game, but in the end drew the short straw with 94:108.

The guests from Ludwigsburg started with a special kind of offensive fireworks, as Head Coach Josh King's team did not have a single miss until the fourth minute of the game. At first, Bayreuth found absolutely no grip on the Swabians' offense. When it became too much for medi Head Coach Mladen Drijencic at 12:25, he asked his team for a timeout and from then on things went much better for medi bayreuth. Point by point, the team with the recovered Brandon Childress fought their way back to the giants and thanks to a successful three-pointer by Ahmed Hill in the last second, the deficit was only four points after ten minutes.

Ludwigsburg started the second session with an 11-0 run, so Head Coach Mladen Drijencic had to call a timeout after his team had still not scored any points after five minutes in the second quarter. After that, Bayreuth got into the game better, but the deficit from the first, unsuccessful, six minutes was too high for medi to get back within striking distance before the break.

With a lot of pressure, both defensively and offensively, medi now managed to put an 8:0 run on the floor and get as close as three points to the Giants. However, the Swabians were not impressed by this and played out their entire class with confidence, so that they were able to increase their lead again within a few seconds and went into the last quarter with a 78:67 advantage.

In the final period, medi once again threw everything on the floor, but every time it felt like they were getting a grip on the game, the Giants proved Bayreuth's basketball heart wrong and pulled away again. Even the 1,000th league assist by captain Bastian Doreth could not change anything in the end in the offensively dominated 94:108 defeat.

Mladen Drijencic (Head Coach medi bayreuth):

"Congratulations to Josh on a deserved victory. For us it was again a challenge, which our guys took well with a hard fight. Unfortunately, we did not play consistently, which would be important for us. There are still moments when we forget our new automatisms and that's where we need to use the FIBA break now and work on it."

Now we have a longer break of 22 days before we play again on Wednesday, March 8 against the MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg. This time, however, our team is the guest of the Swabians. Jump to the make-up game of the 13th match day in the MHP Arena is then at 19:00 clock.
