No points in Hamburg: medi bayreuth loses at Veolia Towers with 74:86
They had planned a lot for the basement duel at Veolia Towers Hamburg, but in the end it was unfortunately not enough for medi bayreuth again. On the 20th matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, Head Coach Mladen Drijencic's team lost 74-86 and thus remains winless away from home.
Yoeli Childs opened the crisis duel of Veolia Towers Hamburg against medi bayreuth with a real firecracker in the form of a dunk. However, not only the home team quickly found its way into the game, but also medi bayreuth and an open exchange of blows developed, which was balanced after eight minutes. The Bayreuth team was even able to take the lead for a short time, but at the end of the first quarter, the mistakes in medi's game increased, so that the Veolia Towers Hamburg were able to close the first ten minutes with a 22:18 lead in their favor.
Also at the beginning of the second period medi did not manage to stop these mistakes, instead they repeatedly made minor carelessness that brought the Towers into the game, so that after just under 16 minutes the Towers' lead had reached double digits for the first time. However, Head Coach Mladen Drijencic apparently found the right words in the timeout, because from then on the ball ran better with his team again and also in the defense they were now more aggressive.
Immediately after the change of ends, medi managed to reduce the deficit to three points, but the Towers did not allow another chase. Instead, they were able to pull away point by point, so that Bayreuth was once again trailing by ten points in the 26th minute of play. Although medi tried hard not to lose the connection, the Hamburg team managed to pull away to 58:46 in the course of the third quarter. This twelve-point gap was still there after 30 minutes.
In the final period, medi tried to fight back with all its might against the threat of defeat, but it was not enough, so that they lost the away game at Hamburg Towers with 74:86.
Mladen Drijencic (Head Coach medi bayreuth):
"I congratulate Benka and the Towers on the deserved victory. This game took a lot of energy from both teams today. You could see a difference in quality on the court, for example in the mistakes the players made, defensively as well as offensively. This quality finally prevailed today. We lost our heads again in the offensive and produced twenty ball losses, implemented our gameplan too little. Habits weigh heavily, we would need more time to eradicate these habits and form new ones. Our players also need to take responsibility in this, so that we quickly reach another level."
Already on Tuesday it goes for medi bayreuth again to the thing. The MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg are guests in the Oberfrankenhalle. Jump on the 21st matchday is at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the game are available here!
