Spectators flock to the ADAC GT Masters race in Spielberg
The Saturday race, the fifth race of the season in the ADAC GT Masters, was won by the Corvette pilots Marvin Kirchhöfer and Daniel Keilwitz (both from Callaway Competition), who thus lived up to their role as favorites on the Red Bull Ring. The duo swept to a commanding victory, their first of the season. BMW drivers Timo Scheider/Mikkel Jensen and Dennis Marschall/Victor Bouveng finished second and third respectively. Christian Engelhart came twelfth with his teammate Rolf Ineichen. However, the pairing, who lined up for the GRT Grasser Racing Team, which is based not far from the track, captured victory in the Pirelli Trophy rankings in their Lamborghini Huracán GT3.
Marvin Kirchhöfer and Daniel Keilwitz celebrated a double victory. The Corvette pilots also triumphed in the rainy Sunday race in the ADAC GT Masters on the Red Bull Ring in front of more than 12,000 spectators over the weekend. Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli (both ORANGE1 by GRT Grasser) started from 24th on the grid in their Lamborghini, but managed to climb all the way up to second thanks to a clever tire strategy: They stuck to slicks throughout the race. That paid off in the final phase, when Bortolotti drove up to six seconds a lap faster on the dried track than the competition on rain tires. The Italian was in eleventh after taking over behind the wheel and then fought his way steadily through the field. The Mercedes AMG pilots Markus Pommer and Maximilian Götz (both from the Mann-Filter Team HTP) took the checkered flag in third. Christian Engelhart and Rolf Ineichen finished 24th.
