Tennis - French Open: contested match in quarterfinals

Paris, 06-08-2021

Brose-backed tennis player and defending champion Kevin Krawietz just barely missed out on a place in the semifinals in Paris with his Romanian doubles partner Horia Tecau. They lost in three sets to the Colombian duo Cabal/Farah, seeded second in the doubles rankings, 2:6, 7:6 and 5:7.

Krawietz/Tecau started the match in a very unfavorable way with a break against them. The Colombians, who were considered the tournament favorites after the top-seeded duo Mektić/Pavić was eliminated after being tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, exerted a lot of pressure right from the start. They broke Krawietz/Tecau again at 0:3 and with their own serve at 0:4, the set was already decided early.

In the second set, the German-Romanian duo gained momentum, managed to hold their service games and delivered a duel at eye level. At 6:6, the match went into a set tiebreak, which Krawietz/Tecau won 7:3.

In the decisive third set, Krawietz/Tecau managed to get into a promising position at 4:2. However, this could not be used, as the Colombians came back impressively with 12 points in a row to make it 4:5. After two hours and 29 minutes Cabal/Farah used their first match point and secured their spot in the semifinals.

We keep our fingers crossed for Kevin for the Olympic Games in Tokyo starting July 24.
