Tennis: Krawietz and Pütz miss out on title win at Boss Open

Stuttgart, 06-18-2023

German tennis pro Kevin Krawietz and his doubles partner Tim Pütz still have to wait for their first ATP title together. After an exciting semi-final match at the Boss Open in Stuttgart, they had a chance to win the tournament in the final. But Croatians Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic proved too strong and won 7:6, 6:3.

In the first set, Krawietz and Pütz played on a par with the Croats. Both teams were tied in most of the important statistics. Both doubles had only one break opportunity each, which they could not use. The Croats had the first break chance until 6:5, which was tantamount to a set point. But the Germans saved themselves for the tiebreak. In this tiebreak, however, the Olympic champions from Croatia were superior. After 47 minutes it was 1:0 for Mektic and Pavic.

In the second set, the Croatians showed much stronger serves, which enabled them to break early for 2:1. They easily defended their lead until the score was 4:3. Then Krawietz and Pütz had the chance to come back into the match with a break. But they could not take advantage of it. Instead, they conceded their second break in the next game and Mektic and Pavic took the opportunity to win.

Krawietz and Pütz have no time to rest because the ATP 500 tournament in Halle/Westphalia, the Terra Wortmann Open, is just around the corner. There they will meet Krawietz's former doubles partner Andreas Mies and the Brazilian Marcel Demoliner already on Tuesday, probably at 10 am.
