The Brose rally team extends its lead in the DRM in Saxony
A hard-fought second place overall in the “AvD Saxony Rally” means the Brose Motorsport rally team of Dominik Dinkel and Christina Kohl has built a clear lead in the German Rally Championship (DRM). With their impressive high speed, they even offset the handicap of a 30-second time penalty imposed for not driving properly through a chicane. Their splendid performance in Saxony means they will be the DRM leaders at the halfway point.
“I’m fully to blame for the mistake in the chicane. I was simply a touch too late in braking,” was the frank admission by Dominik Dinkel, the 25-year-old master car mechanic from Rossach, Upper Franconia. “Sure, we were frustrated, but we then simply looked ahead and decided to make the best of the situation. Our whole team pulled together again and did a perfect job yet again. I’d like to thank everyone greatly for that,” were his words of praise.
With its magnificent display in the Saxony Rally, the Brose rally team has increased its haul in the DRM to 72 points and now has a commanding lead of 38 points in the overall standings. Since a maximum of 30 points per event can be won, Dominik Dinkel and Christina Kohl are already assured of leading the championship at the halfway stage. Both of them are looking forward enormously to the next race: The Stemweder Berg Rally on June 15 and 16. Fans and visitors there will have to get accustomed to something new at the service park: The side windows of the Brose Skoda Fabia R5 will no longer be adorned by the name “Ch. Kohl”, but “Ch. Fürst”. But there is no reason to worry – Dominik Dinkel’s regular co-pilot will still with him. The 30-year-old retail saleswomen from Tiefenbach near Passau is using the short break in the DRM calendar to get married. She accepted the proposal from her Johannes at the winners’ ceremony at the 2017 ADAC Three Towns Rally. The rally family wishes the couple all the very best in the world in their future together. And who knows: perhaps the Brose rally team’s performance, which has been very good so far as it is, will be boosted even further in the remainder of the season.
