Tough race for the GRT Grasser Racing Team at Paul Ricard

Paul Ricard, 06-02-2018

The third weekend of racing in the Blancpain Endurance Series GT Cup was held at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Southern France last Saturday. It was an important race for the GRT Grasser Racing Team and also perfect preparation for the upcoming highlight of the season, the 24 Hours of Spa.

Mirko Bortolotti, Christian Engelhart and Andrea Caldarelli were again behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 with the start number 63. Bortolotti began the race from sixth on the grid, improved to fourth spot, and pointed the way from the outset.

The experienced crew focused on clocking constant lap times. The track-side command post kept the drivers up-to-date and decided on the ideal time to change pilots. The drivers did all in their might in the #63Lamborghini Huracán GT3, also when night fell. They were ready to take advantage of mistakes by the cars ahead of them. However, 13th place on the evening after 1,000 kilometers was the best result they could hope to achieve.

The outcome of the unusually torrid six-hour race was frustrating. Nevertheless, the GRT Grasser Racing Team can be satisfied with its teamwork, in particular during the pit stops. The pilots also gave their best. Now it is time to prepare for the Belgian classic, the Total 24 Hours of Spa.

Christian Engelhart said: “It was a tough weekend for us. The car was perfect in qualifying and we managed to post a good result. We had a promising place on the grid in the race. We didn’t make any mistakes whatsoever and drove at full throttle the whole time. All said and done, we unfortunately weren’t fast enough during the night.”
