The expansion of the commercial airfield next to the Brose site in Prievidza/Slovakia is now complete. The airfield opened on 19 March 2019 with the landing of two of Brose’s corporate aircraft. This shortens the travel time between Coburg and Bamberg to Prievidza from nine hours by car or six hours via a commercial flight to Vienna to about an hour.

“We have received very much support from both political representatives and the authorities in establishing our location in Prievidza. Within four years we have completed two construction stages and created 700 jobs – and we want to at least double this figure. Over 100 million euros will be invested by the end of 2021,” says Kurt Sauernheimer, CEO of the Brose Group, adding: “The expansion of the airfield brings our locations in Germany and Prievidza closer together. Our investment in this infrastructure promotes development in the region and creates a quick link to the world.”

The runway was tarred to a length of more than 1,000 meters, a lighting system and a fueling station installed and a security fence put up. The Brose Group assumed the total cost of around three million euros. “This investment is an opportunity for the future development of the Upper Nitra region. The improved infrastructure will help create new jobs and promote tourism,” explains Jaroslav Baška, Prime Minister of the Trenčín region.

Sauernheimer emphasizes the rapid and efficient expansion of the airfield: “We spoke to the Aeroklub, the authorities and government officials for the first time about the possibility of upgrading the airfield in 2016. Today – after just eight months of planning and construction – we are opening the airfield. And even the costs were within budget. This isn’t always the case in Germany.”

Brose has been operating in Slovakia for the past 17 years. The company manufactures window regulators and door systems near the capital Bratislava. The Prievidza location has been producing window regulators, electric motors and liftgate systems since 2017. As part of the plant expansion from around 50,000 square meters today to close to 75,000 square meters, Brose is also enhancing product development and project management functions.
