WTCR: Tiago Monteiro back in Portugal

Sotchi/Porto , 12-01-2021

The Honda team wanted to use the last race weekend of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) to support Esteban Guerrieri in the fight for the drivers' title. However, Tiago Monteiro, who is supported by Brose, had to miss his last race due to illness.

The Portuguese was already suffering from a severe cold before the start of training. His condition worsened and after a consultation with FIA doctors, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment with the diagnosis of bacterial pneumonia.

On Wednesday evening, Monteiro could now be transported to Portugal after five days in hospital. He had to be flown in a special plane with medical equipment for this purpose, so that his medical care was also ensured during the flight.

His treatment will now continue in Porto, but now in the company of his family."After the exhausting days in Russia, coming back to Portugal is a great relief," the racer described. "It was not an easy task, because my health condition did not allow me to travel on a normal scheduled flight. Thanks to the commitment of Honda, JAS Motorsport and Discovery Sports Events, my return to Portugal was made possible. I am very grateful to them, as well as Münnich Motorsport, Rosgonki, the FIA, the Embassy, my team and my family, who always listened to my needs. Thank you also for the many messages I have received in the last few days. This has been an additional motivation on my road to recovery," Tiago continued.

We wish Tiago a speedy recovery and a soon return home to his family!
