2.BBL: BBC misses out on victory at the start of the year

Without injured top scorer Zach Hinton, BBC Coburg lost 94-102 at the OrangeAcademy Ulm after three wins in a row. After a 14-point lead for BBC at the beginning of the second quarter, Ulm came back into the game and finally turned the game in their favor. The best Coburg scorer was power forward Tim Herzog with 20 points.
The Coburgers started strongly. After a good four minutes, the Vestestadt team led by double digits for the first time with 15:5. Again and again, the Coburgers found their big man Ben Diederichs at the basket. The BBC scored a total of 29 points in the first quarter and also started concentrated in the second quarter. Sean Ludwig initially extended the lead to 38-24. But after an Ulm timeout, the home side came into the game much better. A 9-0 run by the Swabians was the result. This was followed by the same game on the other side: Time-out Coburg, 8-0 run by the BBC. And so the Vestestadt lead was always between seven and twelve points until halftime. With already 23 Coburg assists and a 54-47 lead from the point of view of head coach Patrick Seidel's team, it went to the break.
After the change of ends, a real exchange of blows developed between the two young teams. The Ulm team crawled closer and closer to the Coburgers and took the lead for the first time in the middle of the third quarter through their top scorer Alec Anigbata (60-61). But once again, after a BBC timeout, a Coburg 10-0 run was the result, so that the Vestestadt team was even able to pull away to 10 points at times. In the final period, however, it was Ulm who did not give up and took advantage of some Coburg gaps in the defense. So the lead changed again six minutes before the end and everything was heading for an exciting crunch time. Adrian Petkovic brought his team to 90-91 at the free-throw line three minutes before the end. But Ulm countered and took advantage of the many Coburg fouls to bring themselves to the line again and again. A whopping 40 free throws were allowed by the Vestestadt team of the OrangeAcademy, of which the this 33 scored. BBC top scorer Tim Herzog scored four points himself after six unanswered Ulm points and so it went into the final minute with 94-96 from Coburg's perspective. There, however, the guests missed several chances to turn the game around once and for all, while the Swabians kept their nerve at the free-throw line.
For the BBC, it is now a matter of putting the defeat in Ulm behind them as quickly as possible. Because already next Saturday (11.01.), the Vestestadt team will welcome the current second in the table from Leitershofen at the start of the second half of the season.
