“Feel the heat” – true to the motto of the Coburg basketball club, its sponsors and local media representatives gathered at the Coburg site in tropical outdoor temperatures. The persons in charge at BBC Coburg Spielbetriebs-GmbH presented the new organizational structure at the press conference.

After the middling previous season, BBC Coburg and its sponsors met for a press conference at the premises of its main sponsor Brose to inform the public about what would be new in the upcoming season. Matthias Haufer, the club’s Sporting Director, moderated the event and presented the new organizational structure, which is intended to ensure that Coburg’s basketball club can tackle the growing requirements it faces in a professional manner.

The former board member of VR-Bank Coburg, Wolfgang Gremmelmaier, will manage the club. The sport aficionado, who according to Haufer has “excellent connections,” will focus on establishing the club in the Pro B division and expanding the children’s and youth section. Alongside Gremmelmaier on the podium was also the new Head Coach, Ulf Schabacker, whose stated aim is to “optimize the squad and how it plays with emotion, authenticity and intensity.”

A further change is the establishment of a Supervisory Board with Matthias Fischer, previously the Managing Director, as its Chairman. The body also comprises the attorney Wolfgang Hörnlein, Frank Maier, Commercial Director at the Coburg site, the architect Peter Kammerscheid, the notary Dr. Jan Heisel and the attorney Klaus Martin.

The final highlight was the presentation of the new signing Jason Penn from Michigan in the U.S. The 22-year-old American forward will strengthen the team below the basket in the coming season.

The first home game of the 2018/2019 season is against Wiha Panthers Schwenningen in the HUK-COBURG arena on September 29.
