Audi Autotest Motorsport Team on the podium again in Iceland

Reykjavik, 08-24-2019

The 8th stage of the FiA E-Rally took the participants over a total of 513 kilometers through Iceland on the Friday and Saturday. The Audi Autotest Motorsport Team from Lana was again represented on the rostrum by Guido Guerrini/Emanuele Calchetti after the 14 special trials.

Guido Guerrini/Emanuele Calchetti produced a strong display on the island in the far north to finish third and capture their third podium of the season. Fuzzy Kofler/Franco Gaioni were not really able to get into the demanding contest on the first day of trials, but the duo from South Tyrol climbed to fourth on the final day thanks to an exciting comeback and so defended its lead in the pilot’s and co-driver’s standings. Victory went to the Polish team Artur Prusak/Thierry Benchetrit, who finished ahead of reigning world champions Didier Malga/Anne Bonell from France. “The two days were tough, and the Friday in particular was very difficult. We were then able to summon up our top form on the second day,” said Emanuele Calchetti. “We were very good at the start and end, with places 1 and 2, but we had our problems in the middle of the rally,” added Franco Gaioni.

“We knew Iceland was a course that suited Prusak, as he won there last year, too. All the same, third and fourth place means we’ve extended our lead in the manufacturer’s championship,” stated team principal Josef Unterholzner. “Prusak is also the clear favorite for the next stage in Poland from September 5 to 8. After all, it’s a home race for him. However, that might be nerve-racking for Prusak,” added Unterholzner.

Fuzzy Kofler’s lead over Artur Prusak in the pilot’s championship has dwindled to 0.75 points, while Benchetrit is 1.25 points ahead of Gaioni in the co-driver’s standings.
