Bamberg Baskets keep their chance of making the play-in games

Bamberg, 04-27-2024

The dream of the play-in games is still alive! Bamberg Baskets beat BG Göttingen 85:76 at home, whereas its rival for 10th place, Hamburg Towers, lost 92:107 in Oldenburg. Bamberg now has to win one more game than the Hanseatic side in its final four games - that would take the season into extra time for Woltmann's team.

For the first time in nine games, Head Coach Arne Woltmann, who has extended his contract by three years and will return as Assistant Coach under Anton Gavel next season, had to change his starting five. Kevin Wohlrath had to undergo an acute appendectomy. Bamberg initially struggled to get going and Göttingen produced a 0:5 run to go 7:13 ahead. However, Adrian Nelson, EJ Onu and Trey Woodbury with a beautiful alley-hoop slam-dunk then found the gaps in Göttingen's defense and led the home side to a 14:0 run across the quarters to make it 21:13. Bamberg did not relinquish the lead until the end of the game, even though Göttingen cut the deficit to 42:41 in the meantime. However, Bamberg always countered whenever the visitors got close. First the strong top scorers Malik Johnson and Justin Gray, who stretched the lead back to 59:48. Or Zach Copeland, who only woke up in the final quarter and, together with Patrick Heckmann, quickly turned 64:62 into a decisive 72:62.

Arne Woltmann (Head Coach Bamberg Baskets) commented: "Our focus was on defense, since Göttingen is a talented team in offense. We wanted to keep them below 80 points, which we managed to do, although we still conceded a few easy buckets. We weren't able to score the way we wanted to in offense."

Bamberg Baskets host Telekom Baskets Bonn at home in the Brose Arena on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
