Basketball: BBC Coburg loses in Ehingen

Ehingen, 03-16-2024

BBC Coburg suffered a narrow 90:94 defeat in Ehingen on the 23rd matchday of the 2nd German Basketball League Pro B South. Coburg did not show its quality often enough against the hosts, who were in good form, and suffered too many lapses in concentration both in defense and at the offensive end of the court. The BBC's best scorer was shooting guard Gabriel Kuku with 20 points.

Head Coach Patrick Seidel summed up the narrow away defeat in Ehingen: "We played without energy, especially in the first half, and that really hurt us. We should have moved the ball better and, above all, taken better care of it - we had too many easy turnovers. Our rebounding wasn't good today either. Ehingen is actually one of the worst teams at rebounding and we gave them numerous second chances. Our zone defense was very sensible in the second half and we also found better solutions in offense, but on the whole we simply lacked energy today."

The BBC initially had the better start to the encounter. Coburg took an early 17:8 lead after six minutes following a three by captain Sven Lorber, but then gradually lost control of the game and allowed Ehingen to get into the game better and better thanks to several simple mistakes. Coburg conceded a whopping 33 points to its opponents in the second quarter and consequently went in at half-time trailing by 52:45.

The home side continued to hold the upper hand after the break and stretched its lead to 14 points at times. However, as so often in the season, Coburg did not give up in this game and cut the deficit to just three points at 88:85 with three minutes remaining. However, the visitors were no longer able to land the decisive punch to turn the game around. Coburg missed too many chances. Gabriel Kuku had the last chance with a three with 14 seconds remaining, but missed the target.

The basketball players from the city on the west coast now have to digest the narrow defeat as quickly as possible, since BBC Coburg will visit BMW Park in Munich next Tuesday, March 19, 2024, to face FC Bayern Basketball II in a catch-up game on the 17th matchday.
