Bamberg
Basketball Bundesliga: Bamberg Baskets land deserved home win
Strong performance, deserved first home win of the season: Even after trailing by nine points at the start of the second half, Bamberg Baskets were not deterred and turned the game against Basketball Lions Braunschweig around to win convincingly by 92:78.
For the first time this season, Head Coach Oren Amiel had the entire team at his disposal and no injuries forced him to make tactical compromises. Bamberg got off to a promising start and quickly took the lead thanks to an energetic Filip Stanic in the zone, who added seven points to make it 11:2. Bamberg's first changes led to a break in the game, which was particularly noticeable in poorer defence. Braunschweig carved out many unchallenged lay-ups and dunks, with the result that the home side trailed 24:28 midway through the second quarter. Bamberg kept the game open at half-time thanks to points by Trey Woodbury and Zach Copeland.
The first minutes after the break gave rise to fears of the worst: Braunschweig drained three unchallenged threes in the space of 56 seconds to make it 41:50 and Bamberg seemed to be completely off its game in defense. However, after the timeout by Head Coach Oren Amiel, the team was suddenly wide awake again at the back. The team defended well in the final seven minutes of the third quarter and Braunschweig only scored two points. And since top scorer Zach Copeland also delivered again in front alongside Trey Woodbury, Bamberg turned the game around with a 19:2 run to make it 69:56. In the final three minutes, after taking the lead 87:67, Bamberg let the game run out of steam.
Adrian Nelson (Bamberg Baskets) commented: "That was a team success. The most important thing was our defence and the fact that we pulled it off together as a team. Zach made important big plays at the end. We now have to keep this going as a team against the Seawolves."
The Bamberg Baskets can notch up their next home win as early as Tuesday, 28 November, when they host the Rostock Seawolves at 8 pm in a catch-up game on the third matchday.
