Basketball Bundesliga: Bamberg Baskets land third BBL win in a row

Ludwigsburg, 03-09-2024

Bamberg Baskets reach for the play-in places! After their 92:87 away win in Ludwigsburg, their third straight victory in the German league, the players of Head Coach Arne Woltmann are just one win away from tenth place, which would mean two qualifying games for the playoffs this season.

Bamberg repeatedly started the encounter with too little concentration with 6:13 and Woltmann's players conceded four turnovers in the first four minutes. However, the visitors stepped up their defending from midway through the first quarter and turned the game around with a 12:0 run to make it 21:15. Center EJ Onu in particular put his stamp on the game before the break with 43:41: three blocks at his own board, three successful threes and 13 points and nine rebounds. After the break, it was not only top scorer Zach Copeland with 23 points, but above all Trey Woodbury with 21 points who always kept Bamberg narrowly in front. After several poor games, Woodbury had found his hot hand again: Nine of his eleven close-range shots landed in the basket, while the playmaker also snapped up seven rebounds and dished out three assists. His post-dunk three minutes before the end to make it 79:74 was the preliminary decision to win.

Bamberg Baskets' Head Coach Arne Woltmann commented: "We put in an outstanding performance, especially doing a solid job defensively. Giving up 18 offensive rebounds is too many, but we were very focused and pulled ourselves out as a team in the tight spells when we've fallen apart in the past."

Bamberg Baskets will host second-placed Chemnitz 99ers on Sunday, March 17, 2024, starting at 5 p.m. Bamberg lost the first leg 79:109 on the road.
