Basketball Bundesliga: medi bayreuth loses to Niners Chemnitz

Bayreuth, 04-13-2022

Medi bayreuth's black streak continues after the 30th matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga. In front of 2,314 spectators in the Oberfrankenhalle in Bayreuth, Head Coach Raoul Korner's team lost to the Niners Chemnitz on Wednesday evening with 69:83.

The game was opened by a successful three-point shot by Janari Jõesaar, but the guests from Chemnitz soon followed suit and quickly took the lead, which they were to relinquish only two more times this evening. The Niners imposed their fast game on medi, so that the hosts often made simple mistakes, which the Saxons took advantage of. Thus, Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore's team was 19:15 in front at the end of the first quarter.

In the second ten minutes, Raoul Korner's boys initially managed to keep the deficit close (18:21), but as the Niners' intensity increased, so did the Bayreuth team's carelessness. Medi went into the dressing room trailing 31:41.

The start after the change of ends clearly belonged to Head Coach Raoul Korner's team. Martynas Sajus was not the only one who seemed more committed in defence; a real jolt seemed to have gone through the medi team. With a successful three-point shot by Janari Jõesaar, Korner's charges were even able to reduce the deficit to four points. But as so often in the game before, the home team's comeback was followed by a fitting response from the guests, so that the deficit was twelve points (47:59) after 30 minutes.

In the final period, medi tried hard again, but the Niners were too composed on this evening. Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore's team always found the right answer to every medi run, so that in the end a deserved 69:83 defeat was recorded.

Raoul Korner (Head Coach medi bayreuth): "First of all, it has to be said that Chemnitz was better. I can't blame my team today either. They fought, but at the moment we're on the drip of a few players who give everything they've got, but they've been doing that for ten months. We will definitely put everything into the last two and a half weeks now."

Next up, Bayreuth have to travel to Crailsheim to face the HAKRO Merlins on Saturday, 16.04.2022.
