BBC Coburg avoids relegation

Cologne, 03-17-2019

BBC Coburg has captured an important victory against the strong RheinStars Cologne in the BARMER ProB 2nd German Basketball League. The dauntless eight players of Head Coach Ulf Schabacker seized their first opportunity to avoid relegation by winning 78:72. As a result, the BBC will remain in the German league next season.

Coburg got off to a shaky start and trailed by 19:23 after the first period, but then began to move the ball better and exploit and drain open opportunities – in particular thanks to top scorer Christopher Wolf, who posted a perfect shooting percentage from the floor in the first half. The BBC embarked on the crucial second half of the encounter leading 46 to 35. It was able to carve out a 16-point lead, but then Cologne – led on by Tucker Haymond – produced a 13:0 run. Chase Adams made his free throws at the end of the quarter to put his side six ahead (60:54).

The final period was a nerve-tingling affair for everyone. Cologne clawed its way back point by point and even went in front in the 38th minute. In the final two minutes, Schabacker’s team was able to rely on Chase Adams and Dino Dizdarevic, who were in dependable form from the foul line.

BBC Coburg eventually ran out winners by 78:72 and so managed to avoid demotion.
