- BBC Falls in Derby

In the second edition of the Franconia-Thuringia derby this season, BBC Coburg was clearly defeated by the Basketball Löwen Erfurt with a score of 107:68. The Löwen dominated the game from the start and deservedly took revenge for the defeat in the first leg. The top scorer for Coburg was American Zach Hinton with 21 points.
Although Zach Hinton scored the first points of the game for Coburg, it was the only lead they would hold throughout the match. The hosts got into the game with a 17:4 run. The Löwen found their rhythm early, especially from the outside, and also managed to get open shots from mid-range. The first quarter ended 31:15 in favor of Erfurt. In the second quarter, BBC struggled to create offensively, as they did throughout the game. Additionally, their three-point shooting was almost non-existent, with only four shots from beyond the 6.75m line finding the Erfurt basket. Coburg sought their luck in the two-point range and even reduced the deficit to 44:33 two minutes before halftime. However, a 6:0 run by the Löwen not only set the halftime score at 50:33 but also posed a greater challenge for BBC in the second half to reduce the deficit. In the second half, the guests managed even less than in the first 20 minutes. Erfurt gradually pulled away and took advantage of Coburg's absence both offensively and defensively. Besides the poor shooting percentage from outside, Coburg committed a total of 24 turnovers, which repeatedly allowed the Löwen to score easy points. After three quarters, the score was already 73:49 for Florian Gut's team. Despite the high lead, Erfurt did not let up in the final quarter and started the last 10 minutes with a 20:2 run (93:51). Löwen forward Alieu Ceesay also had the honor of breaking the 100-point mark three minutes before the end. With a 107:68 defeat, Coburg not only lost the Franconia-Thuringia derby but also the direct comparison against Erfurt. In the standings, BBC dropped to eleventh place due to the defeat but remains tied on points with eighth-placed Ulm.
For Patrick Seidel's team, it's now a matter of brushing off the defeat, quickly moving on, and preparing for the next task. This will be against Porsche Basketball Academy Ludwigsburg at home next Sunday (09.02.).
