BBL: Bamberg’s Winning Streak Ends Against Rostock

Bamberg, 10-20-2024

The Bamberg Baskets were unable to continue their current winning streak. After winning four consecutive games across competitions, the team was defeated by the ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES on Sunday afternoon at home. In front of 4,781 spectators, Bamberg lost to the Baltic Sea city team 75:89 (36:40).

The Bamberg Baskets started with strong defensive pressure, as they had in their recent cup and ENBL victories. Within the first 90 seconds, they prevented the guests from making a shot within their 24-second attack time twice. Offensively, Head Coach Anton Gavel’s team repeatedly forced the game into the zone, where they sought and found Filip Stanić under the basket. He initially put his team ahead 6:2. The lead was maintained until the end of the first quarter (24:22). The second quarter also saw a closely contested game. However, as Rostock found their rhythm, the guests led 36:40 at halftime. They carried this momentum seamlessly into the second half. The hosts repeatedly attempted to go it alone offensively, which played into the SEAWOLVES’ hands during this phase. By the end of the third quarter, they had extended their lead to 56:66. In the final phase, Bamberg threw everything forward, refusing to give up and reducing the deficit to 71:80. In the subsequent defensive sequence, the hosts were unlucky as the referees missed a clear offensive foul by Godwin Omenaka. Instead of reducing the deficit further with possession, Schwartz used this situation to score a three-pointer for the guests, making it 71:83. Elias Baggette then sealed Rostock’s victory with another three-pointer in the following attack.

The BBL continues for Bamberg on Friday. They will play away against the EWE Baskets Oldenburg at 8 PM.
