BBL: Winning streak breaks against Ulm

The winning streak is broken: The Bamberg Baskets had to accept a clear 98-77 home defeat against Ratiopharm Ulm at the start of the year. Against the strong guests, the Bamberg defense in particular was vulnerable again.
At the beginning, coach Anon Gavel relied on a duo of playmakers: Kyle Lofton and Ronaldo Segu led the team, but could not build on the offensive consistency as in the derby win against Würzburg. Segu hit two spectacular layups, but Ulm kept the pace high. The score was 23-16 after the first quarter. In addition to the carelessness in the Bamberg defense, there were the unused chances under the Ulm basket: Brandon Horvath and Key Shawn Feazell missed their shooting chances in decisive situations, while Ulm scored easy points. Even after the break, the Gavel boys were unable to turn the game around. Up front, with a weak scoring rate of 43 percent from the field (compared to Ulm's 58 percent), nothing more was achieved. After a 10-0 run, Bamberg was down 64-43. A glimmer of hope for the catch-up race for the 5,400 fans was brought to the field by youngster Gabriel Kuku, who was strong at the back and up front with two three-pointers together with top scorer Kyle Lofton reduced the deficit to 11 points (76-65). But when Filip Stanic had to go to the dressing room five minutes before the end after a collision with a suspected broken nose, Ulm were able to pull away again and ultimately won the game.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, the Bamberg Baskets will play another BBL home game with the Hamburg Towers at the Brose Arena starting at 6:30 p.m.
