Christian Engelhart on the rostrum again in Misano
Thanks to a display full of fighting spirit, Christian Engelhart and his teammate Mirko Bortolotti managed to capture another place on the winners’ rostrum in Misano. A setback in the free training could also not stop the duo: The Lamborghini #63 had to take things easy on the Friday on account of a technical problem. Christian Engelhart was on the track during the free training for just five laps, with the result that there was not really enough time in the car for both pilots.
Nevertheless, Christian Engelhart turned in another strong performance on the track on the Saturday to capture ninth place on the grid. Thanks to a strong stint, he drove the Lamborghini Huracan into fifth by the time the pilots changed. A perfect pit stop and a likewise excellent display on the track enabled Mirko Bortolotti to cross the line in a fabulous third spot.
“I’m very happy with our podium placement in the first race. That was the maximum possible – without any testing and little time on track in the free training – after starting from ninth.”
In the Sunday race, bad luck struck for the GRT team with the number 63. Tire damage in the first stint cost it fourth place and forced the green-and-orange Huracan GT3 to return to the pits. The resultant gap thwarted any chance of another place on the rostrum, despite the fact that both pilots fought hard and intensely to get back in the race.
“Unfortunately, the second race was disappointing, since we were again in a promising position to get on the podium again. We had tire damage and so couldn’t fight for a finish among the top three. Now we have to focus on preparing for the 24 Hours of Spa.”
