Christian Engelhart takes stock

Austin / Texas, 10-23-2016

Texas is always worth a visit – not only on account of its special atmosphere and country-style culinary highlights, but also in particular for Christian Engelhart, who was able to demonstrate his fine motor racing skills, driving with great passion in his two races on the Circuit of the Americas. On the final weekend of the 2016 season, the Bavarian pilot displayed brilliant overtaking maneuvers, picked up plenty of points in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and so was able to give a positive verdict on the season.

After a strong showing in the free training, it seemed initially that everything was going against Christian in qualifying: On his first attempt on new tires he got caught up in traffic, and he was not able to capitalize on his second set because the race was stopped with a red flag. Nevertheless, Christian captured good points towards his final tally in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in both races, clocking the fastest and second-fastest laps and displaying great overtaking, and so produced a magnificent performance over the whole season in this fiercely contested competition.

“We were able to keep on improving very well over the year. My thanks go to my MRS team, which again prepared a perfect car for me in the important finale to the Supercup season. I’m also very satisfied with my two races. That was exciting, passionate and fair motor racing. And: I really enjoyed it.”
Christian was able to pick up double-digit points again and follow up his successful conclusion to the season the previous week in the national competition, the Porsche Carrera Cup, also at the top international cup level as part of the Formula 1 event.

“The finale to the Porsche Supercup season is always of outstanding importance. As a pilot, you want to go into the winter with a very good result and feeling – and I definitely achieved that. I also want to give my partners something back at this high level – and I believe that, in the two entertaining races, everyone at the track and watching on TV had a really exciting time.”
With a total of 14 places on the rostrum in 25 races, Christian’s ratio of top-3 finishes in the Porsche Carrera and Supercup combined is more than 50 percent. He has also amassed 339 points in both competitions taken together, proving that the experienced Porsche pilot and three-times runner-up in the Porsche Carrera Cup has kept on improving his consistency over the years.

“It’s simply a pleasure to keep on taking up the challenge and pushing the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to its limit together with my team. We were very successful in that this year.”

Christian is already preparing for next season before the start of the winter break and aims to make intensive efforts to achieve his objectives next year. 2017 will be a year for which the Bavarian driver has already laid the foundation and in which he intends to do even better thanks to his customary meticulous work. He looks forward to bringing a smile to the face of his fans, partners and friends next year with this precision and his passion for motor sport.

“I’ll fight hard to do that. After all, the many moments of joy and celebrating successes together on the track this year spur me on and also make me committed and determined to experience more of them in the coming year.”
