Engelhart captures place on the rostrum twice at the Hockenheimring

Hockenheim, 05-08-2016

Hockenheim is one of Christian Engelhart’s favorite tracks – and the pilot from Kösching showed precisely why last weekend. In the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, which was staged in Hockenheim as part of the season opener in the DTM series, he was also to get onto the rostrum twice in the drivers’ championship to conclude a successful weekend.

On the podium twice, two pole positions and one fastest lap – Christian’s verdict after the second weekend of racing was a positive one in almost every respect. In the Porsche Carrera Cup, the 29-year-old continued his string of successes with a second and third place on the rostrum, enabling him to chalk up 36 more points in the championship and so strengthen his grip as the closest contender to the leader in second place overall.

“Things began perfectly for me: starting from pole twice is brilliant, of course – and means you have very good chances in the race.” Christian’s joy at winning pole position twice was marred briefly in both races. “You can say that again. I twice got off to a bad start and didn’t get out of my blocks well. I have to work on that. However, I was able to fight my way back into the race right away.”

As a result, Christian gave a hint of his potential in the Porsche Carrera GT 3 Cup together with his team MRS. The objective now is to sort out a few minor things by the next weekend of racing and then, starting next Friday, get into the points in Barcelona, where the Formula 1 series will be on European soil for the first time this season. “We absolutely have the potential to contend for podium places in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. And that’s definitely my goal. That’s what I’ll fight to do and I know my team’s right behind me.”

Christian’s next races:

May 13–15: PSC Barcelona (Formula 1)

May 20–22: PCD Spielberg (DTM)

June 3–5: ADAC GT Masters & PSD Lausitzring
